We are going to start blogging every month or so about a featured artist that we will be displaying in our front display case! This month, our featured artist is Mary Jane Doubleday. She is a local jewelry designer, right here in Maine. She studied metalsmithing and design at Massachusetts College of Art. Her designs are influenced by a childhood interest in origami. She made jewelry by bending, hammering, and folding metal shapes into three-dimensional forms. Her collection is inspired by leaves, flowers and seed pods that she found while exploring her new rural neighborhood when she moved to Maine from Boston in 1994. It features elegant, sculptural, graceful designs, inspired by nature and carefully hand crafted in silver and gold. Come check out her designs in the first center case when you walk into our store.

It’s that time of year again…the time for snow, lights, holiday cheer, and Merry Madness! Every year, Portland’s Old Port shops extend their hours until 10PM to help you finish your holiday shopping. It’s worth braving the cold to enjoy an evening out with friends and family while you shop ’til you drop!

The night kicks off at the Eastland Park Hotel from 5-6 with free hors d’oeuvres, prizes, and information/maps of stores that are participating. This is where you can get your signature Merry Madness wine glass that some stores will refill as you shop around! We participate every year and it is such a fun evening! The Old Port comes alive with music, food, live entertainment, and great shopping. Another great aspect of the evening is to check out the shops that have decorated their windows and you can vote on which one is your favorite! We won the “window walk” last year.
